Second, bigger tsunami may hit after earthquake off north-east coast, Japan says | BBC News
Japanese authorities have warned that a second tsunami may be on the way after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the country's north-east coast.
An initial 40cm (16-inch) wave was recorded at the Miyako port in Iwate prefecture, with waves as tall as 3m (10 feet) forecast by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Tsunami warnings have been issued in Iwate and Hokkaido prefectures, and the country's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has urged people in impacted areas to seek higher ground.
